An Answer!

It's embarassing how much time lapses between blog posts - but if nothing else, it should indicate to you just how s-l-o-w this process is. Finally, we are getting some answers!

My husband had an appointment with the urologist almost a month ago. Last week we got his blood test results back and they showed that the low sperm count, motility and other issues were all being caused by low levels of FSH (the hormone secreted by the Pituitary glad that signals for the testicles to produce more testosterone). So, the answer... Clomid!

Clomid (or clomiphene) can be used by both men and women to aid in getting pregnant. In women it stimulates ovulation - espeically important for those of us out there who have regular periods but without ovulating (anovulation). In men, it signals for increased FSH secretion and, in-turn, more testosterone production. Clomid can be expensive. Right now we're especially grateful for wonderful health insurance that has greatly reduced the cost of this drug for us.

I continue to track BBT and hopefully, now that he's on Clomid, we may make some progress. We were scheduled to have an appointment with an infertility specialst (at $300/hour!) tomorrow which we cancelled. We both felt, since the urologist was fairly confident that the reason we were having so much difficulty was the count and quality of the sperm, that the infertility appointment wasn't quite necessary at this point. We're anxious to see how well we can do with just the Clomid, and should we continue to experience frustration then we'll reschedule.

That's the update for now. Will keep posting. Please keep praying!
